A bus driver worries about a passenger dropped off in the middle of nowhere.

The story opens...

He slowed the bus through the gears and felt it judder to a stop as the nearside wheel slithered across a rut. ‘You sure this is your stop?’ he asked the elderly woman clutching the rail beside him. ‘There’s nothing here for miles.’

   The woman offered him a piece of paper in response. He read it, pulled a face and nodded, almost sadly. ‘Aye, that’s what it says. That’s where we are.’ He handed back the paper and released the doors allowing in the cold damp smells of the countryside. ‘Someone is coming for you, then?’ he persisted...
